Myth #1
Smoke alarms provide enough protection against house fires
Fact: Smoke alarms are able to warn people when a fire is happening but will not stop the flames from burning. It is smart to have other things in place to protect you and your home against house fires.
Myth #2
Fires don’t spread quickly
Fact: In around 30 seconds a small flame can turn into a huge fire. It only takes a few minutes for thick black smoke to fill a house. In just two minutes a fire can be life threatening and I just five minutes a house can be engulfed in flames.
Myth #3
Older homes are more likely to catch on fire rather than newer homes
Fact: This is a common misconception because people think the wiring may be outdated, but that's not always isn’t the case. In newer homes the material’s they use are actually more flammable. On new homes they use lightweight wood and engineered lumber which increase the fuel load and burn easier.
