Mold Damage and How to Protect Your Commercial Business From It

3/2/2023 (Permalink)

Mold growth can certainly happen on any surface given the right conditions. The main three ingredients mold needs to grow include moisture, food, and temperatures from 32- 120 degrees. Mold spores need moist or damps areas to be able to grow and reproduce. Things to look for are leaky windows, pipes, and appliances. Other areas susceptible to mold include bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms due to the higher humidity levels and the possibility for leaks.

While moisture is just one factor, a food source is also needed for mold to grow. Mold can grow on cotton, leather, wood, and paper products as well. In your commercial property some common materials mold can grow on can include Drywall, Carpet, Drop ceiling tiles, and Caulk or grout. One of the most common materials mold loves to grow on are porous materials. When these items get affected it is almost impossible to remove and clean the mold from these types of products.

Finally the third thing mold needs is temperatures above 32 to 120 degrees. With that being said temperatures from about 70- 90 degrees are the most conducive for mold growth.

How To Prevent Mold Growth

  • Improve air flow
  • Inspect plumbing
  • Service HVAC
  • Keep humidity lower than 50%
  • Direct water away from building
